Somalia: UN Puts Somalia Mission Assets Up for Sale As U.S. Funding Cutoff Looms

The items listed include vehicles, generators, computers, office equipment, containers, security structures, wastewater treatment plants, medical and laboratory gear, electrical appliances and heavy construction machinery.

The report says the sales process comes as the United States moves to end funding for UN logistical support to Somalia by the close of 2026, raising questions about the future of international backing for the country’s security transition. UNSOS provides non-lethal support such as transport, fuel and food to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), which supports roughly 12,000 African troops and police deployed against al-Shabab.
