What the report says

Somalia and Saudi Arabia have discussed ways to deepen their long-running relationship, according to Somalia’s foreign ministry, with talks centered on trade, investment and Red Sea security. The meeting took place in Mogadishu and brought together Somalia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ali Mohamed Omar, also known as Ali Balcad, and Saudi Ambassador Ahmed Mohamed Saleh Al-Muwallad.

The ministry said the two sides reviewed practical areas for cooperation and reiterated interest in expanding bilateral ties. The discussions were framed around shared economic and diplomatic interests, including efforts to boost commerce and investment between the countries.

Security in the Red Sea was also on the agenda. The waterway is strategically important because it connects the Middle East and Africa and serves as a major route for global shipping. The report said both countries see value in closer coordination on issues of common concern, especially as maritime security has become a wider regional priority.

More broadly, the meeting fits into a longstanding relationship in which Saudi Arabia has had political, economic and diplomatic links with Somalia. As reported by Shabelle and distributed by AllAfrica, the talks signaled continued interest on both sides in strengthening cooperation and supporting stability in the region.
