Somalia: Somali Defence Minister Visits Danab Command in Galkayo

What the report says
Somalia’s Defence Minister Ahmed Macallin Fiqi and the commander of the Somali National Army, Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud, visited a Danab special forces unit in Galkayo, in central Somalia, on Tuesday, according to Shabelle via AllAfrica. The visit focused on inspecting military operations, troop readiness and conditions at the base.
The officials toured the headquarters of the 163rd Unit of the 16th Danab Commando Brigade, where they reviewed the state of the facility and received briefings from officers on ongoing activities and responsibilities in the area. They also met soldiers at the base and urged continued readiness, stronger coordination among military units and commitment to national duties.
Shabelle reported that the minister and army chief highlighted the armed forces’ role in protecting civilians and supporting security in Galkayo and nearby areas. The visit also gave defence and military leadership a chance to assess the needs of troops deployed in and around the city.
Danab commandos are among Somalia’s specialised forces and have played a role in operations against militant groups. More broadly, the visit fits into Somalia’s wider effort to strengthen its national army and expand its security capacity, although the article did not announce any new operational changes or policy decisions.
