What the report says
Somalia’s Chief of Defence Forces, Brig Gen Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud, has praised Uganda for supporting the Somali National Army through training and mentorship, and he called for a deeper partnership in that area. The comments came during a meeting with Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who also serves as Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations.
According to Watchdog Uganda, the meeting took place at the Special Forces Command headquarters. Brig Gen Mohamud thanked Kainerugaba for inviting the Somali delegation to the first African Defence Chiefs’ Conference on Military Operations Other Than War, saying it offered useful learning and an opportunity to share experience. He also briefed his Ugandan counterpart on Somalia’s security situation as the country moves through an election period.
Gen. Kainerugaba in turn said the visit reflected a relationship that continues to strengthen through dialogue and cooperation. He reiterated Uganda’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s army and people. The two commanders also said their ties should extend beyond defence cooperation to include economic and social links, with an emphasis on encouraging Ugandan investment in Somalia.
The article says the meeting was attended by senior Ugandan military officers, including the Chief of Joint Staff, Lt Gen Jack Bakasumba, and other top commanders.
