Socialite Don Chris jobs fraud victims rise to 655

Kampala, Uganda | URN | Police in Uganda say the number of people accusing city socialite Christian Asiimwe, known as Don Chris, of defrauding them through a fake overseas jobs scheme has increased to 655, up from about 350 reported earlier. The case centers on his former labour recruitment firm, Sky Pins Tours and Travel, which is now defunct. Authorities say he was arrested on August 28 in Zana, Wakiso District, after spending more than a year on the run.

According to the report, the complainants say they paid money between 2022 and 2025 after being promised jobs in countries including Canada, the United Kingdom, Qatar and Dubai. Police said the alleged victims were seeking work such as cleaning, caregiving and waiting jobs, and that individual payments ranged from about Shs5 million to Shs10 million. The total amount allegedly collected is estimated by police to be more than Shs2 billion.

The Independent Uganda, citing police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, reported that investigations have been completed and the case file has been cleared by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. Don Chris was expected to appear before City Hall Court. The case has drawn attention because it reflects a broader pattern of overseas job scams affecting Ugandan job seekers, who are often targeted with promises of travel and employment that do not materialize.
