SMEs share growth and business protection priorities at dfcu meet

What the report says
Small and medium-sized business owners in Kampala met with dfcu Bank leaders during the latest Kyusa Level SME Customer Dine-Out at the bank’s Ndeeba branch, where the discussion focused on growth, cash-flow management, resilience and financing needs. According to The Independent Uganda, the event brought entrepreneurs and bank executives together to talk about the pressures facing smaller firms in Uganda, including higher operating costs, tighter cash cycles, shifting customer behaviour and stronger competition.
The conversations went beyond credit access and covered practical issues such as separating personal and business finances, protecting productive assets and planning for disruptions that can interrupt operations. dfcu officials said the aim of the series is to understand where different businesses are in their growth journey and what kind of support is most relevant to them, from startups to expanding enterprises.
William Kayongo, dfcu’s Head of Enterprise Banking, said sustainable growth depends on financial discipline, while Arthur Kintu, Head of Bancassurance, stressed that asset protection should be part of core business planning. Rebecca Birungi, the bank’s chief financial officer, said direct customer feedback helps the bank keep its products and services aligned with changing business needs.
The event reflects a wider trend in SME banking across Uganda, where lenders are increasingly emphasizing not only financing, but also risk management and business continuity support for small enterprises.
