Fox Business reported that Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey has announced plans for Bakunawa, a major new roller coaster slated to open in 2027 and billed by the park as a six-record-breaking attraction. The ride, unveiled Tuesday, is planned as part of a refreshed Boardwalk area, though Six Flags has not yet provided a specific opening date or further details on that renovation.

According to the report, Bakunawa is designed to stand 382 feet tall, reach up to 100 mph and run on 3,163 feet of track. Six Flags says the coaster will feature three launches, including what it describes as the first upside-down launch in the world, and will use free-spinning, floorless trains. The park expects it to become the tallest and fastest spinning coaster, while also claiming records tied to its inversion speed, stall inversion length, floorless spinning design and upside-down launch.

The ride will use two trains with 20 riders each, with a 48-inch minimum height requirement, and each run is expected to last about two minutes and 17 seconds. Fox Business, citing comments reported by USA Today, described a route in which riders climb vertically up the tower, move around the outside near the top, then reverse direction.

Bakunawa’s name comes from a serpent in Philippine folklore associated with the moon. If completed as described, the coaster would add another high-profile thrill ride to Six Flags Great Adventure and could become a notable draw for roller coaster enthusiasts tracking record-setting attractions.
