Singer Neha Kakkar lights up India Day in Kampala

What the report says
Indian singer Neha Kakkar and her husband Rohanpreet Singh headlined India Day 2026 at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala, drawing thousands of people for an evening of music and celebration, according to Sqoop Uganda. The October 3 event combined concerts, dance, food exhibitions and cultural displays, with attendance from Uganda’s Indian community, the wider public and several government and business figures.
The programme was organised by the Vishwadharma Foundation together with the Indian Association Uganda and Kansai Plascon Uganda. Sqoop Uganda reported that the day began with a flag-hoisting ceremony and parades, followed by around 30 stalls offering Indian cuisine, community services and cultural showcases. Close to 400 performers participated in traditional, classical and contemporary dance performances, while a Friday corporate dinner featured instrumental entertainment for sponsors and partners.
Beyond the festivities, the celebration also carried a health charity message. The article said the organisers linked the event to support for children needing heart surgery and for cataract operations. Kansai Plascon Uganda managing director Dr Santosh Gumte said the company was renewing a pledge to back 100 heart surgeries for children, while the broader campaign also referenced 1,000 cataract operations.
The concert was the main crowd-puller, with Kakkar performing popular songs alongside Singh as the audience sang and danced. The event also highlighted how cultural celebrations in Uganda can be used to bring together entertainment, community identity and charitable fundraising.
