What the report says

Anthony Gordon’s move to Barcelona for a reported £70m is being viewed more positively after a strong start in Spain, according to BBC Sport Football. The England winger has played five matches since arriving in May and has already supplied four assists for Hansi Flick’s side, although he is still searching for his first goal.

BBC Sport says Gordon has fitted quickly into Barcelona’s left-sided attack, a role previously occupied at times by Marcus Rashford on loan last season. His pace, direct running and willingness to press have added another dimension to a team that has opened the campaign with 22 goals in five games. Barcelona sporting director Deco said the club chose Gordon because his style matches the coach’s approach.

The report also notes the questions that followed the transfer, given Gordon’s mixed Premier League form at Newcastle and the size of the fee. But his record in Europe was much stronger, and his early displays have helped shift the conversation from whether he could cope at Barcelona to how important he might become.

Gordon has also made an impression away from the pitch, greeting supporters in Spanish and Catalan. BBC Sport says Barcelona fans are already chanting his name as the club continues its fast start under Flick.
