Sheikh Ssali urges newlyweds to put responsibility before wealth

Uganda Muslim Supreme Council Religious Affairs Secretary Sheikh Imran Abdunoor Ssali used a Nikah ceremony in Old Kampala to tell newlyweds to focus on duty, patience and mutual understanding rather than material wealth. He spoke at the wedding of Shahiira Ndawula and Muniru Mbosera Watuwa at Gaddafi National Mosque, where he said marriages often fail when couples do not take their responsibilities seriously.

According to Nile Post, Sheikh Ssali encouraged the groom to show strength through care and responsibility, and urged the bride to embrace her role as well. He said spouses should keep Allah at the center of their marriage and build their family on commitment, prayer and practical support. He also prayed for the couple’s union and wished them a fruitful family life.

The ceremony was presided over by Sheikh Abdulwahid Rashid Ssewankabo, Imam of the National Mosque. The bride’s father, Sunnah Sulaiman Ndawula, also addressed the couple, advising them to listen to each other, avoid living for appearances and grow together through life’s challenges. UMSC Deputy Secretary General Hajji Counsel Muhammad Ali Aluma, representing Mufti Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, reinforced the same message by urging young people not to define marriage by wealth and by encouraging families to support marriage as a foundation for stable society.
