Shake It Africa: Jon Muq’s new mission to take African music global

What the report says
Ugandan singer-songwriter Jon Muq has launched Shake It Africa, a new music label and live entertainment company aimed at helping African artists reach wider audiences beyond their home markets. According to Sqoop Uganda, Muq developed the venture with veteran music executive Kevin Wommack and says it is meant to provide mentorship, creative opportunities, international exposure and a supportive community while preserving artists’ identities.
The company’s debut release is "Shake Shake Dance for Me," a new Afrobeat version of Muq’s 2024 song. Sqoop Uganda reported that the track was produced by Grammy-winning producer Derek Dixie. Muq is presented as the founder and creative director of the new platform, while Wommack serves as CEO and co-founder.
The article says Shake It Africa is being built as more than a label, with plans that include recordings, artist development, live events and cultural programming. Its first major compilation, "Bantu Muntu," is set for release on February 12, 2027, and is expected to feature artists from Uganda, Kenya, Ghana and Nigeria. The company also says it began a monthly residency in Austin, Texas, on September 20, 2026, and is planning a showcase in Utrecht, Netherlands, in March 2027.
The broader significance, as described by Sqoop Uganda, is that Muq wants to turn his own rise from a one-room home outside Kampala into a pathway for other African musicians. The company is positioning itself as a bridge between African talent and international audiences, with Africa, Europe and North America identified as key markets.
