SFC Honours 67 Retirees for Dedicated Service

The Special Forces Command (SFC) has recognised 67 officers and men as they prepare to leave active service in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF). According to Watchdog Uganda, the retirement send-off took place on Friday, 7 August 2026, and was meant to honour personnel described by the command as having served with dedication and selflessness.

The group included four captains, 17 lieutenants, 23 warrant officers, nine staff sergeants, 12 sergeants and two corporals. The article says other senior officers who attended the ceremony are expected to receive their retirement certificates at the official UPDF retirement event scheduled for 12 August 2026 at the Joint Headquarters in Mbuya.

At the function, SFC human resource officials praised the retirees for qualities such as discipline, loyalty and courage, and also acknowledged the support of their families and spouses. Brig. Gen. John Mango Baraza, speaking for the SFC commander, thanked them for work connected to national security, including military operations, VIP protection, peace support missions and other assignments.

The ceremony also carried a message about the transition to civilian life: retirees were encouraged to use their experience productively while keeping the values they developed in service. The report adds that the UPDF’s Directorate of Veteran Affairs remains responsible for veteran welfare, underscoring the military’s continuing link with personnel after retirement.
