SFC commander urges troops to turn drill victory into combat skills

Special Forces Command (SFC) commander Major General Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru has urged troops to build on their success in a military drill contest by sharpening combat and shooting skills. According to Nile Post, he made the remarks after receiving the winning team and championship trophy at the SFC headquarters in Entebbe, Wakiso District.

The command won the second edition of the Chief of Defence Forces Inter-Forces Drill Competition, earning a Shs50 million cash prize alongside the trophy. Mweteise said the result reflected professionalism, teamwork and determination, but stressed that parade success should translate into stronger performance in operational training and battlefield readiness. He also encouraged early preparation for future competitions.

SFC deputy commander Brigadier General John Bosco Asinguza said the victory was driven by sacrifice, courage, endurance, teamwork and consistent preparation. He added that drill training can improve alertness, coordination, confidence, leadership and cohesion among troops. SFC chief of staff Brigadier General John Mango Baraza likewise warned the winning team against complacency, noting that other Uganda People’s Defence Forces units would likely try to take back the title.

Nile Post also reported that SFC won the Officers’ Sword Drill, and Lieutenant Gordon Akandwanaho was named Best Junior Officer. The broader significance is that the command is treating drill success as part of wider military discipline and readiness rather than as a stand-alone achievement.
