Serwanjja Pledges Jobs and Better Services for Bamutakudde Residents

Nile Post reports that journalist Solomon Serwanjja has been elected Local Council I chairperson of Bamutakudde Village in Mukono District after a one-vote win in Tuesday’s election. According to the report, Serwanjja received 106 votes, while National Unity Platform candidate Lule Badru got 105 in the contest for Bamutakudde Village, Dundu Parish, Kyampisi Sub-county. The count was completed on Tuesday evening.

The publisher says Serwanjja discussed the outcome on Salam TV’s Omukeeze programme on Wednesday, where he described the race as highly competitive and outlined priorities for his new role. His pledges include improving service delivery, creating smaller village cells to support mobilisation, communication and security, and holding regular community meetings.

Nile Post further reports that Serwanjja promised vocational training for youth in areas such as electrical work, carpentry and house painting, with the aim of supporting employment. He also said he plans to open a village bank account managed by three officials to support community projects, including boreholes and street lighting, and to introduce a Saturday clean-up programme to improve sanitation.

The result is notable because of the extremely narrow margin, underscoring the importance of individual votes in grassroots elections. Local Council I leaders are the most immediate elected officials in Uganda’s local government structure, and the role often involves community coordination, local dispute handling and mobilisation for public services. Nile Post says residents are now awaiting the official handover and looking for delivery on the campaign commitments.
