Serve with Integrity, Reject Prestige: Mukono District Chief Lukooya Urges Student Leaders at St. Andrew’s Ndwaddemutwe

Watchdog Uganda reported that Mukono District Chairperson Francis Lukooya Mukoome addressed a student leadership handover ceremony at St. Andrew’s Ndwaddemutwe SEED Secondary School in Kimenyedde Sub-county, Mukono, urging the incoming council to treat leadership as public service rather than status. Speaking as guest of honour, he encouraged integrity, discipline, commitment, time management, innovation and continued learning among student leaders.

According to the report, Lukooya said he had been among local leaders who supported the creation of the school and welcomed its role in improving access to secondary education in the area. He pledged to return for a broader motivational session and said he would lobby for more computers and classroom infrastructure. He also encouraged learners to focus on academic achievement and personal development.

The transition included remarks from outgoing Head Prefect Nasuuna Prescilla, who thanked the school leadership and urged the new council to lead with humility and moral responsibility. Incoming Head Prefect Lutaya Dickson promised transparency, teamwork and practical action, while asking teachers to continue mentoring the student leaders.

Headteacher Nathan Kigongo thanked Lukooya for his contribution to the school’s establishment and credited the government’s SEED Secondary School Programme, which is intended to expand public secondary education access in underserved areas. He appealed for cement to help complete a multipurpose hall and called for joint efforts by parents, school leaders and district authorities to reduce absenteeism. The school chaplain, Rev. Samuel Muwonge, dedicated the new cabinet, and Ms. Nakaddu Winfred commended the school Electoral Commission for managing the transition.
