What the report says

Sebastian Fisher Scott made a standout debut for Uganda’s U17 side, coming off the bench to score a hat-trick in an 8-0 win over Burundi in the opening match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations U17 CECAFA qualifiers. The game was played at Kigali Pele Stadium in Rwanda on Saturday, October 10, giving Uganda an early advantage in Group B.

Uganda were already in control before Fisher entered the match. Arnold Kayemba scored twice early on, while Arafat Ibanda and Nicholas Kawooya also found the net to put the Cubs 4-0 ahead at half-time. Fisher then added three goals in the second half, with his first coming in the 73rd minute, before further strikes in the closing stages completed the rout.

Fisher is a Scotland-based striker with Partick Thistle and is among the diaspora players being brought into Uganda’s youth teams. The report says he is eligible through his Ugandan-born mother, and that his older brother Olly has also trained with Uganda’s youth setups. His performance offers an immediate boost to coach Laryea Kingston’s team as they continue their qualifying campaign.

The result matters because the CECAFA competition is the regional route to the 2027 AFCON U17 finals. Uganda next face Ethiopia on Wednesday, October 14, and Kingston urged his players to keep their focus after the big win.
