The report, published July 26, said Shanahan suffered a severe concussion, several broken bones and facial cuts that required 40 stitches.

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay, a longtime friend and NFC West rival of Shanahan, said he had spoken with him after the crash. McVay expressed relief that Shanahan and the other person involved were okay, and said Shanahan was approaching the situation with strong perspective while beginning his recovery. He also offered support for Shanahan’s wife, Mandy, and their family.
