HITC reported that Scottie Scheffler’s second round at the 3M Open turned sharply over the closing stretch Friday at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota. Scheffler, described by the outlet as the world No. 1, had reached nine under par through 13 holes and appeared well placed near the top of the tournament picture before dropping shots late in the round.

According to HITC, the key setback came at the 14th, where Scheffler hit his second shot into the water and made double bogey. He later bogeyed the par-three 17th, then recovered one shot with a birdie at the 18th. The sequence left him with a 38 on the back nine after a 32 on the front, turning what had been a promising round into a second-round 70 following his opening 65.

Speaking after the round, Scheffler said he believed he had done some things well but pointed to a sloppy 12th hole, a poor swing around the 14th and the wind affecting the shot that found water. He also said he received an unfavorable break on 17 despite missing in a safer area. Asked whether he would go to the range afterward, he indicated rest was more likely.

HITC noted that conditions were tougher than in the opening round. Scheffler said the wind had picked up, especially for the afternoon wave, and that some greens may have been firmer, though not extremely so. The late mistakes did not remove him from contention, but they made his weekend path to a 3M Open title more difficult.
