School bus tragedy strikes again as students injured in Kamuli crash

Nile Post reported that a school bus transporting Nalango students was involved in a serious collision with a sugarcane truck in Busota, Kamuli District, near Busota Health Centre III. The outlet said multiple students were injured, some with fractures, and several were described as being in critical condition. The exact number of casualties had not been confirmed at the time of publication.

According to the report, the Kamuli District Emergency Medical Services rescue team responded at the scene and moved injured learners to nearby health facilities. Medical officials said emergency and medical wards were handling many casualties, with clinical teams working to stabilize patients before further treatment. Police had not yet issued an official explanation of what caused the crash.

The incident came less than a day after a separate school bus crash in Kapchorwa District that, according to Nile Post, killed 20 pupils who were returning from a study tour. The publisher also noted recent school transport accidents in Mukono and Bugweri, developments that have increased public concern about the safety of learners on Uganda’s roads.

Nile Post reported that the government had already announced an immediate, indefinite suspension of school study tours countrywide after the recent fatal crashes. Schools already on educational trips were directed to report to the nearest police station for guidance and accountability. The Ministries of Education and Sports and Works and Transport, together with the Uganda Police Force, are said to be coordinating measures to tighten rules on school transport and educational trips.
