Sawa Energy and dfcu Bank to expand access to affordable, reliable clean energy

Sawa Energy and dfcu Bank have announced a strategic partnership aimed at widening access to affordable, reliable clean energy for Ugandan businesses. The initiative, branded dfcu Go Green – Powered by Sawa Energy, is designed for qualifying small and medium-sized enterprise and corporate clients and will offer fully financed on-site solar photovoltaic and battery energy systems.

According to The Independent Uganda, the model allows businesses to adopt clean power without making upfront capital payments. Instead, participating customers can use long-term pay-for-consumption or fixed lease agreements running from 10 to 25 years. The partners say this approach is intended to ease pressure from high electricity costs, unstable grid supply and dependence on diesel generators, while helping companies preserve capital for operations and expansion.

Under the arrangement, dfcu Bank will identify potential clients and support the qualification process, while Sawa Energy will handle design, financing, construction, ownership, operation and maintenance of the systems. The solutions may include grid-tied, hybrid or off-grid setups depending on each customer’s needs. The companies said the program is meant to support business performance and sustainability goals, including access to energy-generation and estimated avoided-emissions data for reporting.

The Independent also noted that Sawa Energy, founded in 2021, operates in Uganda, Rwanda and Zambia and has deployed more than 75 solar installations.
