Savage starts Peterborough reign with 4-1 win - EFL Trophy round-up

What the report says
Robbie Savage made a winning start as Peterborough United manager, with the League One club beating Ipswich Town Under-21s 4-1 in the Jersey Mike’s Trophy and securing a place in the last 32. BBC Sport reported that Peterborough led 4-0 by half-time in Savage’s first match in charge, just days after he was appointed following his departure from Forest Green Rovers. Harry Leonard scored twice in the comfortable home win.
The result also helped holders Luton Town progress, while several other teams across the competition’s northern and southern sections booked knockout places. In the north, Bradford City won 4-0 at Rotherham United, Huddersfield Town beat Rochdale 5-0, and Sheffield Wednesday defeated Sunderland Under-21s 2-0. Accrington Stanley, Stockport County, Fleetwood Town and Port Vale also featured among the clubs picking up key wins or bonus points.
In the southern section, MK Dons produced one of the biggest scorelines of the night, routing Brentford Under-21s 7-1 with Aaron Collins scoring a hat-trick. Stevenage and Cambridge United also made it two wins from two, while Wycombe Wanderers beat Bristol Rovers 4-1. Exeter City, Plymouth Argyle and Barnet all drew but advanced via penalty shootout bonuses. The wider significance is that the group stage is now deciding which lower-league sides move into the knockout rounds of the EFL Trophy.
