What the report says

CNET reported that Samsung used its summer Galaxy Unpacked event on Wednesday to introduce a new round of foldable phones, smartwatches and updates to its broader AI device plans. The main hardware announcements included the $2,100 Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, the $1,900 Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the $1,200 Galaxy Z Flip 8. The event began at 9 a.m. ET, according to CNET’s live coverage setup.

The new foldables continue Samsung’s push to make bending-screen phones more appealing in a market where they remain premium devices. CNET said the Fold 8 Ultra and Flip 8 are slimmer and lighter than last year’s models, while the standard Fold 8 uses a wider 4:3 layout intended to improve content viewing. The report also highlighted camera and software features aimed at creators, including AI tools and a horizontal lock feature for steadier video.

Samsung also announced the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. CNET described the Watch 9 as visually familiar but upgraded with a new processor, larger battery, brighter display and health features such as sleep apnea monitoring, heart-related fitness insights and cardio load guidance. The Ultra 2 is positioned more toward rugged or extreme-sport use.

CNET said Samsung also shared more information about smart glasses being developed with Google, with eyewear designs from Warby Parker and Gentle Monster. The glasses are expected to support AI-assisted tasks such as translation, navigation, calls, photo capture and note-taking. More broadly, the event underscored Samsung’s effort to extend Google Gemini and Galaxy AI features across phones, watches and future wearables.
