Salam Charity Supports Vulnerable Elderly Women in Gulu

What the report says
Salam Charity has provided food and essential supplies to two elderly women in Gulu City who were identified by Muslim leaders as among the area’s most vulnerable residents. According to Nile Post, the women were singled out because they were struggling to secure food and other basic necessities, and the aid was delivered with the involvement of local religious leadership.
The handover was led by a Salam Charity team headed by Managing Director Hajji Karim Kaliisa. The charity said the support reflects its wider mission to assist elderly people and other families facing hardship. Kaliisa urged communities and supporters to look after older people who may no longer have the means to meet their daily needs, and he said the organisation has systems to identify and reach people in need.
Salam Charity Country Director Abdussalaam Ali Kinobe also used the occasion to appeal for Zakah contributions to be routed through the organisation so that more vulnerable people across Uganda can be helped. District Qadhi of Acholi Muslim District Sheikh Muzamil Ismael Mandela praised the charity’s work and said the two beneficiaries had been on the community’s radar for support.
The report places the gesture within Salam Charity’s broader humanitarian activities in Uganda, especially efforts aimed at vulnerable households. It also highlights a recurring challenge in the region: elderly people and low-income families often need sustained support for food, shelter and other basic needs.
