What the report says

Trabzonspor forward Mohamed Salah made a memorable first league start for the Turkish club on Sunday, scoring twice in a 2-1 home win over Istanbul Basaksehir in the Turkish Super Lig. The result gave Trabzonspor their first victory of the season. Salah joined the team on a free transfer earlier this month after leaving Liverpool, where he had spent nine seasons and won multiple trophies, according to Al Jazeera.

Salah put Trabzonspor ahead early when he finished after Basaksehir goalkeeper Muhammed Sengezer failed to secure the ball. Eldor Shomurodov later equalised for the visitors from the penalty spot, but Salah restored the lead shortly after halftime with a move down the right and a low finish into the far corner.

The match also featured two disallowed goals for Salah: one ruled out in stoppage time for a foul in the build-up and another for offside after he scored from distance into an empty net. The newspaper’s report said the performance came in Salah’s first league start after appearing as a substitute in the season opener. He is now set to focus on Trabzonspor’s Europa League playoff second leg against Ferencvaros after the Turkish side lost the first leg 1-0, a result that adds importance to the coming fixture.
