Sahibzada Farhan named Pakistan’s T20 captain as Naseem Shah returns

What the report says
Pakistan has made a leadership change in its men’s Twenty20 cricket side ahead of a three-match home series against Sri Lanka, with Sahibzada Farhan replacing Salman Ali Agha as captain, according to Al Jazeera’s report from October 6, 2026. The move also came with several squad adjustments, while Shaheen Shah Afridi remained in charge of the one-day international team.
The report said fast bowler Naseem Shah has been recalled to the T20 setup after last appearing in the format at the T20 World Cup in February. Batter Hasan Nawaz also returned after a period out of favour, and rising player Razaullah was included in both the T20 and ODI squads following his Test debut against England in Birmingham last month. Pakistan’s ODI group also features Babar Azam, while selectors did not include wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan.
Al Jazeera reported that Rawalpindi will host the three Sri Lanka T20 matches from October 9 to 13, with the ODI tri-series starting on October 18. The article also said former Australia pacer Shaun Tait has been appointed Pakistan’s bowling coach, replacing Ashley Noffke. More broadly, the changes suggest Pakistan is adjusting its white-ball leadership and personnel as it prepares for a busy run of matches at home.
