Sage feels 'shame' at Palace thrashing with future in doubt

What the report says
Crystal Palace manager Pierre Sage said he felt “shame” after his side were beaten 5-0 by Brighton in the Premier League, a result that left his future at Selhurst Park uncertain. Speaking after the match, Sage said he accepted responsibility for the display and admitted he did not know whether he would be given time to improve results.
BBC Sport reported that Palace conceded three goals in the opening 10 minutes, in what became their heaviest defeat against Brighton since January 1956. Sage, who was appointed in the summer, said the team started badly and failed to show the standards expected of them. He apologised to supporters and said the performance was far below what the club and fans should expect.
The result leaves Palace 14th in the Premier League with two wins from seven games, and BBC Sport noted that they have conceded 17 goals, the highest total in the division. The report also placed the defeat in context of Palace’s recent success under previous manager Oliver Glasner, who led the club to major trophies in 2025. Palace also have two Europa League matches so far, with a trip to Besiktas next, followed by a home league game against Newcastle on Sunday.
