The New York Post, citing The Guardian, reported that Ljubisa Karović, a 61-year-old Serbian entrepreneur, described surviving a July 10 incident on a Ryanair flight from Greece to Germany after a window at his seat, 11F, shattered soon after takeoff. Karović said he remembers the blast-like sound and later learned he had lost consciousness during the emergency. He was traveling for his brother’s birthday, while his wife, Svetlana, was seated several rows behind him.

According to the report, Karović suffered serious bruising and burns to his right arm and upper body, as well as head and neck pain. Doctors have put him in a neck brace for six weeks and will later assess whether surgery is needed. His lawyer, Vasilis Tsiaras, alleged that the pressure loss left Karović partly outside the aircraft and that passengers, rather than cabin crew, pulled him back and tried to block the opening.

Ryanair disputed criticism of its crew, telling the outlet that during depressurization and rapid descent, passengers and staff must remain seated with oxygen masks on. The airline said that once the aircraft reached a safer altitude, crew assisted Karović, moved him near his wife, arranged for a doctor on board to sit with them, and had medical help waiting when the plane returned to Thessaloniki.

The Post reported that the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board said it would investigate under Greece’s direction. The incident matters because sudden cabin depressurization is a rare but serious aviation emergency, and investigators’ findings could clarify what caused the window failure and how the onboard response unfolded.
