Ryan Gosling Unveiled As Ghost Rider At Marvel’s Comic-Con Panel - Deadline

Deadline reports that Marvel Studios used its Comic-Con panel to confirm Ryan Gosling as the next actor to play Johnny Blaze, the supernatural antihero known as Ghost Rider. The film is planned for release in 2028, according to the report, and was presented at Marvel’s Hall H event with Gosling and Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige in attendance.

The project will reunite Gosling with director Shawn Levy and writer Jonathan Tropper, who are also involved with Star Wars: Starfighter. Deadline says Levy will direct the new Ghost Rider film and Tropper will write the screenplay. Star Wars: Starfighter is currently dated for May 28, 2027, making Ghost Rider another major franchise assignment for the team.

Johnny Blaze was previously played on the big screen by Nicolas Cage in Ghost Rider in 2007 and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance in 2011. Deadline noted that those two films earned more than $361 million worldwide combined. The character is generally known as a motorcycle stunt rider who makes a supernatural bargain and becomes an agent of vengeance. The report also notes that Eva Mendes, Gosling’s partner, appeared in the original film as Roxane Simpson, though Marvel did not say at the panel whether she would return.

The casting adds another high-profile name to Marvel’s future slate as the studio continues laying out projects beyond its current releases. Deadline also connected the timing to Gosling’s recent franchise work, including Project Hail Mary and Star Wars: Starfighter, while saying he had exited another planned Universal project because of scheduling issues.
