What the report says

Omukama Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I has kept Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki on as prime minister of Tooro Kingdom for another six months, according to The Observer. The announcement was made on Monday by Nyabongo’s principal private secretary and spokesperson, Paul Nyakaana Businge. Rwomiire also served in the same post under the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who died in August.

The report said Nyabongo also confirmed other leadership changes, including the reappointment of Prince Charles Kamurasi as head of the Babiito royal clan, known as Musuuga, with Bernard Kato Rwakatale as deputy. In addition, the king named an 11-member advisory committee to help guide the kingdom’s administration during the transition period.

Rwomiire said he had accepted the new assignment with seriousness and thanked the king for the renewed trust. He said he had already put together a cabinet for the six-month transitional term and submitted it for approval. Among the priorities he outlined were paying salary arrears at the kingdom’s offices in Muchwa, improving administrative systems, completing youth empowerment projects, supporting agriculture, finishing the Masaza tournament, and developing a strategic plan for the kingdom.

The Observer reported that the changes came about a week after Nyabongo was formally crowned as Oyo’s successor. The leadership transition appears aimed at stabilizing kingdom affairs while new structures are put in place, with calls for unity and cooperation from royal family members, leaders and subjects.
