Rwanda’s economy grows by 9.4 pct in Q2 of 2026

What the report says
Rwanda’s economy expanded by 9.4% in the second quarter of 2026, according to data released Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda, as reported by The Independent Uganda. The pace was higher than the 7.8% growth recorded in the same period of 2025, indicating continued recovery and expansion across several parts of the economy.
The report said industry was the main driver, growing by 18%, while services rose by 7% and agriculture increased by 4%. Services remained the largest component of output at 51% of GDP, followed by industry at 23% and agriculture at 21%. Net indirect taxes made up the remaining 5%.
At current market prices, Rwanda’s gross domestic product in the quarter was estimated at about 7.17 trillion Rwandan francs, or roughly 4.89 billion U.S. dollars, compared with about 5.8 trillion Rwandan francs a year earlier. The figures suggest that industrial activity and consumer-facing services continue to underpin growth, while agriculture contributed more modestly.
More broadly, the update adds to a pattern seen in many East African economies where manufacturing, transport, trade and other services have played a larger role in recent growth. The Independent Uganda’s report was based on NISR figures and did not provide additional policy response or forecast details.
