Rwanda: Nduhungirehe Attends AU Executive Council Session On Agenda 2063 Priorities

AllAfrica, carrying a report from The New Times, reported that Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe, was in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Tuesday, July 28, for the opening of the 49th Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council. The meeting brings together foreign ministers from AU member states at the African Union headquarters.

According to the report, the two-day session is focused on continental priorities and on preparing decisions to be sent to the AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government. This year’s theme is “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve Agenda 2063,” linking the meeting to the AU’s long-term development framework for inclusive and sustainable growth.

The New Times reported that ministers are expected to review progress on Agenda 2063, consider efforts to speed up ratification and implementation of AU treaties, and assess work under the AU’s 2026 Theme of the Year. The session is taking place within the Mid-Year Coordination Meeting framework, which was created in 2017 to improve coordination among the AU, Regional Economic Communities, Regional Mechanisms and member states.

The outcome matters because recommendations adopted by the Executive Council are forwarded to heads of state and government, helping shape AU policy on integration, governance and sustainable development. The session is scheduled to conclude on July 29.
