Rwanda: Alternative Routes As Prince House-Giporoso-Masaka Gets Disrupted

What the report says
Motorists and passengers in Kigali were advised to use alternate roads as expansion work began on the Prince House-Cyamitsingi section, part of the wider Prince House-Giporoso-Masaka corridor, according to The New Times via AllAfrica. The disruption is tied to construction on the first phase of the road project, which the paper said was scheduled to start on August 31, 2026.
Rwanda National Police issued route guidance for different types of traffic. Travelers from Rwandex to Kabuga were directed to several city and peri-urban detours, while those moving from Kacyiru to Kabuga were told to use a different set of connecting roads. Trucks were also assigned separate routes, including a path linking Kabuga with the Special Economic Zone and other areas, and freight coming from the Rusumo border toward Kigali was redirected to the Ngoma-Bugesera-Kigali road.
The Rwanda Transport Development Agency said the project is being carried out through cooperation between the governments of Rwanda and China. RTDA said the work is expected to take 30 months and will cover a 10-kilometre stretch. The planned upgrades include a four-lane carriageway, a flyover, underpasses, interchanges, bridges, culverts, lighting, drainage and traffic-management features. Officials say the broader aim is to improve mobility, safety and the movement of people and goods along the corridor.
