The attacks hit multiple regions, including Sumy, Odesa, Kyiv, Zaporizhia and Kharkiv, while fresh damage was also reported in Russia’s Krasnodar region after a Ukrainian drone strike on an oil depot.

In Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, Mayor Ihor Terekov said a guided aerial bomb hit an apartment building early on Monday, injuring at least 22 people, including six children, and destroying two floors of the structure. Earlier strikes elsewhere in the country killed three people in Sumy, one person in Odesa, and four more in other attacks reported by Ukrainian officials, including in Zaporizhia and Kyiv.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia had launched more than 2,200 attack drones, 1,630 aerial bombs and 38 missiles in the previous week, framing the barrage as evidence that Moscow was not moving toward de-escalation. The Kremlin’s defence ministry said it had targeted telecommunications facilities in Kyiv, while Russia’s foreign minister told the UN that Moscow would continue its military campaign. The wider context is a war that began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and has increasingly featured large-scale drone and missile strikes on civilian and infrastructure targets, with both sides denying deliberate attacks on civilians.
