Russian glide bomb attack on Zaporizhzhia kills at least 15 people

What the report says
Russia struck the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia with five glide bombs on Saturday morning, killing at least 15 people, including three children, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky and emergency services cited by BBC World News. Officials said the bombs hit residential buildings in the south-eastern city, and at least 16 other people were injured.
Authorities said some people were still missing and may be trapped under the rubble of a largely destroyed apartment block. Acting mayor Regina Kharchenko told Ukrainian television that the ground floor was hit and the upper floors collapsed. She said rescue crews, numbering more than 80 workers, were continuing search operations and pausing regularly to listen for signs of survivors.
The BBC said Zelensky also reported overnight strikes in 13 other regions and warned of a response to the Russian attacks. The report placed the Zaporizhzhia strike in the wider context of intensified Russian attacks on Ukrainian civilian areas and infrastructure, with civilian casualties rising and frontline cities like Zaporizhzhia coming under repeated fire.
BBC World News also noted that the attack came hours after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a deal to import Russian diesel into the United States, while Zelensky criticized easing pressure on Russia as a signal it could continue the war.
