Russian drone hits school in Ukraine’s Kyiv as Moscow presses air assault

What the report says
Russian drone strikes hit Kyiv again on Thursday, damaging a school and another major bridge in the Ukrainian capital as Moscow continued its aerial campaign, according to Al Jazeera’s report. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said children and staff were taking shelter when the drone struck the school, and officials said there were no immediate reports of casualties from that attack.
The report also said two drones hit a bridge connecting eastern and western parts of Kyiv, disrupting metro and ground transport. In a separate incident, Ukraine’s nuclear safety watchdog said a drone struck the grounds of a nuclear research facility in Kyiv on Wednesday, sparking a fire that was quickly extinguished. The regulator said the facility’s test reactor was not damaged and had already been shut down since 2022.
Al Jazeera, citing Ukraine’s air force, said Russian drone attacks on the country rose in September, with 3,177 strikes recorded through September 29, compared with 2,850 in August. The article also noted a deadly drone explosion in Russia’s Belgorod region, where local authorities said one man was killed in Graivoron.
The attacks came as the United Kingdom announced new sanctions targeting people and entities it said were tied to Russia’s war effort, including alleged detention, torture, propaganda and efforts involving Ukrainian children. The developments underscore how the war continues to affect civilian infrastructure, transport links and nuclear-related sites in and around Kyiv.
