Russian drone attack on Ukrainian train station kills at least 13, officials say

What the report says
Ukrainian officials said a Russian jet-powered drone struck a crowded platform at Dnipro railway station in the north of the country, killing at least 13 people and injuring at least 10 others, including an 11-year-old boy. The BBC reported that the attack hit while a train bound for Zaporizhzhia was at the station, and Ukrainian rail operator Ukrzaliznytsia said many passengers were still on the platform despite an elevated threat level.
Regional and city officials described the scene as a major tragedy. Dnipropetrovsk regional head Oleksandr Hanzha gave the casualty figures, while Dnipro mayor Borys Filatov said a civilian electric train had been struck. Images released by Ukraine’s emergency services showed significant damage to the platform and a train with shattered windows. President Volodymyr Zelensky said the strike hit a platform where commuter and passenger trains were standing and renewed his call for tougher sanctions on Russia.
The attack formed part of a wider pattern of strikes on Ukraine’s rail network and other infrastructure since Russia’s full-scale invasion. Moscow has repeatedly denied deliberately targeting civilians, saying rail targets are used to move military personnel and equipment. The BBC also reported separate Russian strikes elsewhere in Ukraine, including a deadly missile attack on Chernihiv, underscoring the continuing risk to civilians far from the front line.
