Runners hit the streets Saturday for 52nd Bix 7 - KWQC

KWQC-TV6 reported that thousands of participants took to the streets of Davenport, Iowa, on Saturday for the 52nd Quad-City Times Bix 7 road race. The annual seven-mile event began downtown at Brady and 4th streets, at the foot of Brady Street Hill, and drew runners, spectators, live music and crowd support along the route.

According to KWQC, Mohammed El Youssfi of Morocco won the men’s elite division, while Everlyn Kemboi won the women’s elite race. Kelsey Allbaugh, competing as the “Beat the Elite” runner, finished before the elite field and earned a $2,500 prize from Russell Group.

The station reported that the Bix 7 course climbs Brady Street Hill, continues onto Bix, also known as Kirkwood Boulevard, and includes portions of Jersey Ridge Road, Middle Road and McClellan Boulevard before a turnaround at River Drive. A companion event, the Prairie Farms Quick Bix, also took place Saturday as a two-mile fun run or walk up Brady Street Hill and started at the same time as the main race.

KWQC noted that race week included several related events before Saturday’s run: the Bechtel Trusts Senior Bix on Tuesday, Brady Street Sprints on Thursday night and the Arconic Junior Bix on Friday night. The Bix 7 is a signature Quad Cities summer road race, and this year’s staging continued a long-running community tradition centered on the challenging Brady Street climb.
