Rugumayo in blistering form, sets new Entebbe Club golf course record

Ronald Rugumayo, the newly crowned Uganda Open professional champion, surged into the lead at the MTN Pro Tee event at Entebbe Club after producing a remarkable 8-under-par 63 in the third round, according to The Independent Uganda. The score gave him a one-shot advantage heading into the final round on Friday and also broke the Entebbe Club course record previously held by Vincent Byamukama at 65.

The report says Rugumayo had opened the tournament with rounds of 70 and 71, leaving him behind the leaders, before rebounding with eight birdies and 10 pars on day three. His total of 204 placed him at 9 under par, just ahead of Abraham Ainamani on 205 and Rodell Gaita on 206. The field also included several familiar names in Ugandan golf, with Grace Kasango and Deo Akope tied for fourth on 212.

Rugumayo told reporters that his first two rounds were affected by mental fatigue after last week’s Uganda Open victory, but said he played smarter golf in the third round. He credited improved tee shots, stronger play from tee to green and better putting. The MTN Pro Tee is the second leg of the Pro Tee series and offers players ranking points as they prepare for the Grand Finale in December, which adds broader significance to the result.
