Rotary, Health Ministry Commission Life-Saving Maternal, Newborn Equipment at Amolatar HC IV

Dokolo Post reported that maternal and newborn care at Amolatar Health Centre IV in Amolatar District, Uganda, has been strengthened with the commissioning of new medical equipment under the Empowering Families, Growing Futures programme. The handover took place on Friday and involved Rotary Clubs serving Amolatar District, the Ministry of Health and district leaders.

According to the report, the equipment was provided through a Rotary Foundation Global Grant being implemented by Rotary Clubs of Uganda with the health ministry and technical partners. Moureen Kisakye, a biomedical engineer with NICOSAM Healthcare, said the package includes baby cots, kangaroo mother care chairs, radiant warmers, pulse oximeters, infant warmers, newborn resuscitation kits, digital thermometers, Bubble CPAP machines and phototherapy machines. NICOSAM Healthcare is expected to handle installation, commissioning, training of users and maintenance support.

Local and Rotary officials framed the support as an important investment in the district’s health services. Amolatar District Vice Chairperson Margret Olul urged health workers to manage the equipment responsibly, while Rotary delegation leader Edward Nkanji emphasized installation, maintenance and prompt use. Kioga County MP Collins Angwec welcomed the selection of Amolatar Health Centre IV and referred to wider efforts to improve access, including two ambulances acquired for Kioga County.

The report said the commissioning follows earlier activities under the programme, including training 27 health workers in newborn care and baseline assessments to guide implementation. The development matters because equipment such as resuscitation kits, warmers and phototherapy machines can support safer delivery and early newborn care when paired with trained staff, maintenance and reliable facility systems.
