Rotary Club of Makanga Donates Supplies to Kabale Hospital Paediatric Ward

What the report says
The Rotary Club of Makanga-in-formation has donated essential children’s items to the paediatric department at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, according to Nile Post. The contribution is aimed at supporting maternal and child health services and easing pressure on staff working with limited equipment and supplies. The report says the donation was made to help improve care for young patients in one of the hospital’s most affected units.
Club president Micheal Kyakashari said the paediatric ward was chosen because it is among the hospital’s neediest departments. A nursing officer in the ward, Pidson Kamugisha, said many of the children admitted there are being treated for diarrhoea and malnutrition. He also said the unit sometimes lacks nutritional feeds for children to take home after discharge, which can contribute to repeat cases.
Kamugisha said the ward receives between six and 10 patients a day, with monthly admissions ranging from 150 to 200. He added that children stay for different lengths of time depending on their illness. These figures were reported by Nile Post and show the scale of demand on the paediatric service.
Pastor Christine Barigye Tina Tukukira, who served as chief launcher for the donation, said the initiative underscored the needs of vulnerable people in the community and the importance of extending support to those who need it. The donation comes amid broader concerns about child health care in Uganda, especially where hospitals face shortages of supplies and ongoing cases of malnutrition.
