What the report says

Manchester City defender Sacha Lewis has signed her first professional contract with the club’s Women’s Super League team, BBC Sport Football reported. The 18-year-old, who is the younger sister of England men’s international Rico Lewis, has come through City’s academy after joining at under-14 level and is now rewarded after advancing through the youth system.

BBC Sport said Sacha Lewis has already been involved around the senior squad, including appearing in matchday squads twice last season as City won their first WSL title in 10 years. She was also included in the group for the Women’s League Cup semi-final against Chelsea, though she has not yet made her senior debut. Last term, she was named player of the season for City’s women’s under-21 side, underlining her progress at the club.

Lewis described the deal as a major achievement and said she was proud to have reached this stage, particularly as a City supporter. City director of football Therese Sjogran praised her as an example to teammates despite her age. The signing comes as Manchester City prepare to begin their WSL title defence at home to newly promoted Birmingham City on 6 September. For City, it also reflects a wider pattern of promoting academy talent into the women’s first team.
