Reports: Draymond Green, Warriors agree to 1-year deal - NBA.com

NBA.com News Services reported that Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors have agreed to a one-year, $27.7 million contract that keeps the veteran forward/center with the franchise through the 2026-27 NBA season. The report, updated July 29, cited multiple reports and included ESPN’s Shams Charania saying Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul confirmed the agreement.

The deal matches the option Green previously declined before the 2026 free agency period, a move NBA.com said gave Golden State more room to explore a pursuit of LeBron James. James ultimately signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, while Green returned to the Warriors on the same financial terms. Golden State also retained most of its free agents and added or agreed to deals with Charles Bassey, Al Horford, De’Anthony Melton and Kristaps Porziņģis, while Quinten Post left for Memphis.

Green is positioned to enter his 15th season with Golden State, the only NBA team he has played for since being selected 35th overall in the 2012 draft. NBA.com noted that if he appears in 51 games, he would join Stephen Curry as the only players in Warriors history to reach 1,000 games for the franchise. Green’s résumé includes four championships, a 2016-17 Defensive Player of the Year award, nine All-Defensive selections and four All-Star appearances.

The move matters because Golden State is trying to reset after a 37-45 season that ended in the Play-In Tournament against Phoenix. NBA.com reported injuries to Jimmy Butler, Curry and Moses Moody were major factors in the team’s struggles. Green averaged 8.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists last season.
