‘Really terrified’: Milo Yiannopoulos speaks out after deportation from US

Far-right British commentator Milo Yiannopoulos has spoken publicly for the first time since being detained by US immigration authorities and deported from the United States. In an interview with Piers Morgan released on Tuesday, and reported by Al Jazeera on 2 September 2026, Yiannopoulos described his arrest and detention as frightening, humiliating and disorienting. He said being restrained in custody left him understanding what it feels like to be “really, really terrified.”

Al Jazeera reported that Yiannopoulos was taken into custody after arriving at an airport in New Orleans, Louisiana, last Thursday, before being held in an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility. US officials have said he overstayed a visa and was subject to a deportation order after missing a hearing. White House border official Tom Homan told CNN that Yiannopoulos failed to appear in immigration court. Yiannopoulos disputed that account, saying his green card application was mishandled and that notices were sent to an old address.

The case matters because Yiannopoulos was once a vocal supporter of Donald Trump’s immigration agenda and had publicly backed hardline measures against migrants. In the interview, he said he was now ashamed of some of those views and argued that immigration raids sweep up people who are not accused of serious crimes. He also said he would challenge the deportation in court. Al Jazeera noted that ICE and the Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to its request for comment.
