Reach A Hand Africa urges young people to participate in National Cleaning Day Drive

The Independent Uganda reported that Reach A Hand Africa (RAHA) has called on young Ugandans to take an active role in the government’s monthly National Cleaning Day campaign. The appeal was made in Masaka and Kampala as the organisation joined community clean-up activities linked to the national initiative, which promotes environmental sanitation, better waste management and public health.

According to the report, RAHA teams cleaned the organisation’s headquarters in Lungujja, Kampala, and nearby areas including Ssendawula Zone, Bukoza, Kibumbilo, Lusaaze, Makamba and Kalama Road. Another team carried out a clean-up at Lambu Landing Site in Masaka District, where RAHA was also marking World Drowning Prevention Day through its Omanyi Okuwuga campaign.

The Independent cited RAHA Director of Programmes Benson Muhindo as saying that community protection starts with everyday actions such as keeping surroundings clean, which can help reduce disease risks and create healthier spaces. He urged schools, businesses, individuals, community groups and local leaders to see National Cleaning Day as a continuing civic duty rather than only a monthly event.

Local leaders in Lungujja, including Councillor Hajat Sarah Nantongo Ssemambo, Chairman Kyambadde Ali of Ssendawula Zone and Chairperson Namulidwa of Ssendawula Zone, were reported to have welcomed RAHA’s involvement. The development matters because youth participation can strengthen local ownership of sanitation efforts and support broader public health goals in urban and lakeside communities.
