Rangers to give Celtic 300 tickets for cup game

Rangers have confirmed they will give Celtic an allocation of 300 tickets for the League Cup quarter-final at Ibrox on 13 September, according to BBC Sport Football. The decision comes after the clubs’ most recent meeting at Ibrox, a Scottish Cup tie on 8 March that was disrupted by fan disorder.

The BBC reports that the Scottish FA has already ruled both clubs must play their next home Scottish Cup matches behind closed doors as a sanction linked to that disorder. Rangers said its reduced allocation for this cup match was based on safety concerns, including the events of 8 March, the club’s own risk assessment, and the aim of improving crowd control, segregation and accountability.

In its statement, Rangers said it had discussed options with Celtic after the draw but that Celtic’s reply did not address its concerns about deterrence and responsibility. The club also referred to further pitch invasions involving Celtic supporters and said it remained worried about the possibility of repeat incidents.

The fixture is one of the season’s major Glasgow derbies and usually draws intense attention because of the rivalry and previous crowd-safety issues. Rangers will also host Celtic in the league on 20 September, with ticket arrangements for that match still to be confirmed, BBC Sport said.
