Rangers Notes: Seager, Montgomery, Bradford - MLB Trade Rumors

What the report says

MLB Trade Rumors reported that the Texas Rangers could soon get back two notable contributors from their 2023 World Series run, with shortstop Corey Seager and left-hander Jordan Montgomery both progressing toward returns from the injured list. The update, published July 26, said Seager participated in live batting practice and told reporters another session was planned before a likely minor league rehab assignment if there are no setbacks.

Seager has been out since June 30 because of lower-back inflammation, one of three injured-list stints for him this season. MLB Trade Rumors noted he has appeared in only 51 games and has struggled at the plate, hitting .182/.292/.374 with 10 home runs in 219 plate appearances. His return would be significant for a Rangers club trying to assess its lineup before the Aug. 3 trade deadline, especially after Josh Jung went on the 10-day IL with a calf strain.

On the pitching side, Montgomery threw 75 pitches for Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday and has made seven rehab appearances between Round Rock and Double-A Frisco. Citing Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News, MLB Trade Rumors said Montgomery could be activated from the 60-day IL for his next outing, possibly as soon as Thursday against Tampa Bay. Montgomery had Tommy John surgery in March 2025 after a difficult 2024 season with Arizona, but Texas brought him back on a one-year, $1.25 million deal.

The report also said Cody Bradford is continuing his own rehab from an internal brace elbow procedure. Bradford has made four minor league rehab starts but has not yet exceeded 48 pitches, and the Rangers appear inclined to build him up further as a rotation option.
