The Boston Globe reported that the Red Sox’ bid to extend a historic winning streak was delayed Tuesday when rain postponed their game against the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park. Boston has won 14 straight games and is one victory shy of matching the franchise record set by the 1946 team. The club will now get its next chance Wednesday in a split-admission doubleheader.

According to the Globe, the makeup game is scheduled for 1:35 p.m., followed by the previously planned series finale at 7:10 p.m. Left-hander Jake Bennett is set to start the opener for Boston against Orioles right-hander Dean Kremer. Baltimore plans to use right-hander Kyle Bradish in the second game, while the Red Sox had not finalized their nightcap starter.

The postponement also affects Boston’s pitching plans. Ranger Suarez, who had been expected to come off the injured list Tuesday, was scratched before the rainout because of what interim manager Chad Tracy described as soreness and feeling under the weather. If Suarez is not ready Wednesday, the Globe reported that Boston could use a bullpen game, with Eduardo Rivera and Brayan Bello among the options. The delay may help the relief corps, as Aroldis Chapman and Garrett Whitlock had both been used heavily in recent days.

The Globe also reported that reliever Zack Kelly was recalled from Triple A and placed on the 60-day injured list, opening a 40-man roster spot, and that first baseman Willson Contreras continues to play through a bruised left foot. Tracy, formerly manager of Triple-A Worcester, is also set to be honored Thursday by the WooSox Hall of Fame.
