What the report says

Paris Saint-Germain were drawn to meet Barcelona, Manchester City and Aston Villa in the league phase of this season’s Champions League, according to Al Jazeera’s report on the draw held Thursday. The Paris club, which beat Arsenal on penalties in Budapest in May to retain the trophy, will play eight matches in the league phase under the competition’s current format.

Al Jazeera reported that PSG will host Barcelona, Roma, Galatasaray and Slovan Bratislava, and travel to England twice for matches against City and Villa. The French side will also visit Villarreal in Spain and Como in Italy. PSG are seeking a third straight European crown, a feat achieved only by Real Madrid in the 2016-18 period, the report said.

The article also highlighted several other major fixtures, including Arsenal’s home games against Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Lille, and away trips to Bayern Munich, Napoli and others. Manchester City, Manchester United and Aston Villa were among the other English clubs mentioned in the draw.

The league phase is scheduled to begin between September 8 and 10, with the last round of matches due in late January. UEFA is expected to release the full fixture list on Saturday. The report adds context on the expanded 36-team league format, now in its third season, and says the final will be played in Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium on June 5, 2027.
