What the report says

Paris St-Germain manager Luis Enrique said he was surprised by the verdict finding Manchester City guilty of breaching Premier League financial rules and said he hopes the club avoids sanctions. His remarks came at a news conference at Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, ahead of PSG’s Champions League visit to Manchester City on Wednesday evening.

According to BBC Sport, an independent commission found City broke the rules over a nine-year period from 2009 to 2018. The case concerns allegations that the club used commercial arrangements to channel more than £830m into football operations. City have denied wrongdoing and appealed the decision. Luis Enrique said the process should run its course and that any final judgment should come from the authorities.

He also stressed that City’s on-field success should be judged separately from the off-pitch case, saying the club deserved the trophies it won in recent years. PSG forward Ousmane Dembele also said the fixture would remain difficult because City still have a strong squad and coaching staff. The match carries added interest because City are playing at home for the first time since the guilty verdict, and Pep Guardiola is expected to return to the Etihad after leaving last season. More broadly, the case adds pressure to one of Europe’s most prominent clubs while it continues through the appeals process.
