'Prognosis remains guarded' - Serie A's Trepy on ventilator

What the report says
BBC Sport Football reports that Cagliari forward Yael Trepy remains in hospital after being found unconscious in a swimming pool in Sardinia. The 20-year-old was airlifted for treatment on Sunday afternoon and is still receiving pharmacological sedation and ventilator support at Santissima Annunziata Civil Hospital in Sassari.
In a statement shared by Cagliari on Tuesday, hospital doctors said Trepy was free of fever and that his breathing had improved compared with the severe condition in which he arrived. They added that sedation could be reduced gradually if he continues to progress, although the prognosis is still being described as guarded.
BBC Sport says it has been told Trepy was in the pool with friends and may have run into trouble after reaching a part of the water where he could not touch the bottom. The report does not say exactly how the incident unfolded, but it indicates he lost consciousness before being rescued.
Trepy had played 54 minutes in Cagliari’s 1-0 Coppa Italia win over Arezzo on Friday, and the club’s players had the weekend off. He came through Cagliari’s academy after joining in 2022, having previously been at US Creteil-Lusitanos in Paris, and scored once in eight Serie A appearances last season.
